How to choose soundproof glass?

According to different structural designs and sound insulation materials, sound insulation glass is mainly divided into the following types:

1. Laminated glass

Laminated glass is made by sandwiching one or more layers of PVB or SGP film between two or more pieces of glass. This structure not only increases the strength of the glass, but also effectively blocks the propagation of sound. The sound insulation effect of laminated glass mainly depends on the type and thickness of the intermediate interlayer material.

advantage:

Excellent sound insulation performance

• High safety, high impact resistance

• Can effectively block ultraviolet rays

• Provide excellent explosion-proof performance

Disadvantages:

• High cost

• Relatively complex production and installation

2. Hollow glass

Hollow glass is composed of two or more pieces of glass, with an air layer or an inert gas layer (such as argon) sandwiched in between, sealed by a sealing strip. The presence of a hollow layer can effectively reduce the transfer of heat and sound.

advantage:

• Good thermal and sound insulation performance

Reduce energy consumption, save energy and protect the environment

• Anti condensation, improve indoor comfort

Disadvantages:

The sound insulation effect is not as good as laminated glass

The sealing strip needs to be replaced after aging, which incurs high maintenance costs

3. Double layered glass

Double layered glass refers to two pieces of glass with an air layer or inert gas layer between them, similar to insulating glass, but with a simpler structure. Due to the double-layer structure design, it can effectively reduce the transmission of noise.

advantage:

• Better sound insulation and thermal insulation performance

• Relatively low cost

• Easy to install

Disadvantages:

The sound insulation effect is not as good as that of insulated glass and laminated glass

• Limited thermal insulation performance

4. Vacuum glass

Vacuum glass is formed by extracting air between two pieces of glass to create a vacuum layer. This design can minimize the propagation of heat and sound to the greatest extent possible, as there are no air molecules in a vacuum state and sound waves cannot propagate.

advantage:

Excellent sound insulation and thermal insulation effect

Energy saving and environmental protection, reducing energy consumption

Ultra thin design, suitable for modern architecture

Disadvantages:

• Extremely high production cost

• Complex production process and high technical requirements

• Difficulty in installation and maintenance

Which type of soundproof glass has the best effect?

Taking into account factors such as sound insulation effect, cost, installation, and maintenance, laminated glass is generally considered the best choice for sound insulation effect. This is because laminated glass not only effectively blocks the propagation of sound, but also has high safety and durability.

Specifically, laminated glass using thicker PVB or SGP interlayer materials has a particularly significant sound insulation effect. Compared with other types of soundproof glass, laminated glass performs well in isolating high-frequency and low-frequency noise, making it ideal for environments that require high-level noise control, such as airports, busy roads, high-rise residential and office buildings.
